A Third Star in the T Tauri System.
New speckle holographic images of the T Tauri infrared companion (T Tauri IRC; T Tauri S) reveal it to be a double system with a sky-projected separation of 0&farcs;05, corresponding to a linear distance of 7 AU. The presence of this third star may account for the relative paucity of dust surrounding the IRC.

Spectroscopy of the infrared He I (λ10830) line with KECK/NIRSPEC and IRTF/CSHELL and of the ultraviolet C III (λ977) and O VI (λ1032) emission with FUSE reveals that the classical T Tauri star TW Hydrae exhibits P Cygni profiles, line asymmetries, and absorption indicative of a continuous, fast (∼400 km/s), hot (∼300,000 K) accelerating outflow with a mass loss rate ∼10–10 M⊙ yr −1 or larger. ...
متن کاملEVIDENCE FOR MISALIGNED DISKS IN THE T TAURI TRIPLE SYSTEM: 10μm SUPER-RESOLUTION WITH MMTAO AND MARKOV CHAINS
Although T Tauri is one of the most studied young objects in astronomy, the nature of its circumstellar environment remains elusive due, in part, to the small angular separation of its three components (North-South and South a-b are separated by 0.68” and 0.12” respectively). Taking advantage of incredibly stable, high Strehl, PSFs obtained with Mid-IR adaptive optics at the 6.5 meter MMT, we a...
متن کاملAccurate stellar masses in the multiple system T Tauri
Aims. We obtain accurate estimates for the individual masses of the components of the tight binary system T Tau S to settle the ongoing debate on the nature of T Tau Sa, a so-called infrared companion. Methods. We take advantage of the fact that T Tau S belongs to a triple system composed of two hierarchical orbits to simultaneously analyze the motion of T Tau Sb in the rest frames of T Tau Sa ...
متن کاملA Hierarchical Triple Star System in M 4
The radio millisecond pulsar PSR B1620−26 is part of an extraordinary triple star system in the globular cluster M4. The inner companion to the neutron star is thought to be a white dwarf of mass m1 ≃ 0.3M⊙ in an orbit of period ≃ 0.5 yr. The nature and orbital characteristics of the second, more distant companion, have remained a mystery for many years. A theoretical analysis of the latest ava...
